Fees

Family Law Assistance

The only alternative to a solicitor.

Fixed Prices. Zero Guesswork.

We all know how it goes: That sinking feeling when you get your monthly bill from your solicitor telling you how much you need to pay to `bring your account up to balance’.

It could be a few hundred pounds (for a letter and a couple of phone calls???) or it could be something in four figures that you just don’t know how you’re going to cover, despite needing help for a case involving your children, finances or divorces.

We know how it feels.

We’ve assisted people for around two decades now. We’ve been to thousands of hearings in courts from Cornwall to Cumbria, from Tyneside to Tunbridge Wells. Our team has assisted men and women, mums and dads in magistrates, district and High Courts round England and Wales in cases ranging from the mundane to the bizarre.

Our methods and systems are tried and tested – tried and tested repeatedly. We know what works and what doesn’t.

On top of that? Court hearings often go on for longer than they’re scheduled for. Because this is the case so often, we’ll quote you. You pay us. So what we say we’re going to charge stays the same no matter what. We don’t want you focusing on what your bill will be – just on getting the best result. Expenses are built in so you know up front of what it’s going to cost a long time before you get anywhere near a court.

The same is true when it comes to filling in forms, help with paperwork or anything else. We’ll tell you what the fee is, you’ll pay for our assistance and we’ll get it done for you.

That way you’re in charge of what you pay every step of the way.

Meetings

It all starts with an `Ask Me Anything’ meeting! All our clients begin their journey with us by booking a chat where we’ll find out everything we need to know to make sure you’ve got the best chance of the outcome you’re seeking.

Q1: How do I book an `Ask Me Anything’ meeting with you?

  • Use our online system to book in for a slot that suits you.
  • Give us some details about you.
  • Make payment.
  • Our automated system will send you instructions on how to go online for your meeting.
  • We’ll also send you email and text reminders to make sure you don’t forget it.

Q2: What exactly is included in this £150 fee?

  • An online meeting that takes place face to face via Zoom to answer any questions you have about your family law matter or case.
  • The opportunity to go through any documents you’ve got that you’d like explained or discussed.
  • Finding out what is really going on in plain English.
  • Talk about your options and potential chances of success.

  • We’ll take notes and ask for information and add it to our records to ensure we have everything we need to know as your matter or case progresses.

Q3: Can I speak to you via phone or face to face instead of a Zoom meeting?

Yes! Contact us at admin@familylawassistance.co.uk if you’d prefer that and we’ll do the rest. We’re happy for you to visit us but if you want us to come to you, but there will be an extra charge for that.

Q4: Can I send you documents before the meeting to look through?

Yes! But we won’t go through them in detail unless you ask us to. We’ll skim the documents to get an overview – but there’s a fee if there’s a lot of paperwork.

Remote attendance at children case hearing

Since 2020, virtual hearings are a thing (but it’s down to the judge if they happen or they’re `in person’). Our attendance fees are far lower for virtual hearings because there’s no extra time or cost for us to be there with you. And they tend to run to schedule too!

Q1: What’s included with this price?

  • Being with you at the hearing (virtually). We don’t charge an hourly rate. Meaning that your `30 minute hearing’ that means a full day waiting to be seen is going to cost you the fee you’ve been quoted and nothing more, to enable you to focus on the matter in hand and not whether you’re paying an extra hour in fees (typically around £250+VAT for a solicitor).
  • A meeting you in court an hour before the hearing. We’ll guide you from the moment you walk through the (virtual) door to ensure you’re focusing on the reason you’re there. We’ll ensure you’re calm, explain what is going on and what happens next, making sure you know why you’re there along with what your options are.
  • Help you with paperwork when you’re there. We’ll ensure everyone sees everything they need to see before the hearing itself.
  • Helping you negotiate with the other party’s solicitor or barrister before the hearing in a virutal meeting if possible. We’ll have all the information you need to hand to ensure you won’t get caught out, to explain your options and to be a friendly and experienced arm around your shoulder to prevent you being ambushed. We’ll take notes and be the quiet, neutral voice in your ear when you need it most.
  • Be with you in the hearing itself. We’ll take notes, explain what is going and ensure you stay focused at all times – saying when we think you should or shouldn’t speak(!) We’ll keep a record of what is ordered to ensure the sealed (official) order matches what was decided in court too. We’ll communicate with you throughout.
  • Debrief you when it’s all over. We’ll tell you what happened, answer any questions you have, explain what your options are going forward and ensuring you’re calm before you leave.

Q2: How do I book you to be with me?

Simple! Let us know you want our help. Pay the invoice we send you. That’s it – our diary is blocked and we’ll be with you.

  • £300 – First Hearing Dispute Resolution Appointment (FHDRA)

  • £840 – Everything you need to get to a `Without Notice’ (Emergency Hearing) & help in the hearing itself.
  • £300 – Return hearing
  • £780 – Everything you need to get to a One Day hearing & help in the hearing itself.

Attendance at `In person hearings’

We attend hearings across all of England and Wales. They’re often much more unpredictable when it comes to location, time and duration.

For that reason we usually provide quotes per hearing for in person hearings.

  • Debrief you when it’s all over. We’ll tell you what happened, answer any questions you have, explain what your options are going forward and ensuring you’re calm before you leave.
  • Buy you a coffee (and a piece of cake). To help you decompress and relax, let’s chat and then go home.

Q2: Do you charge for your expenses?

No. Our prices are `all in’. What you pay covers everything.

Q3: How do I book you for attendance at my hearing?

Simple! Let us know you want our help. Pay the invoice we send you. That’s it – our diary is blocked and we’ll be with you.
