Child Contact – Your Mental and Physical health
Any one who has gone through the family courts will tell what a devastating impact on the lives of all those affected by it can be.
Therefore, the most important thing you can do is to prioritise your well-being. Accepting the reality of your situation doesn’t mean you no longer love your child. It simply means you are accepting some things are currently out of your control.
A refusal to accept your current circumstances will result in you constantly thinking about the massive injustice and unfairness of it all. Feelings of hurt or anger will only maintain a sense of hopelessness. This can lead to many parents spiralling into depression, becoming problem-focused and loose the ability to see the opportunity for change.
This is understandable when facing such adversity. However, remaining problem-focused will only maintain and deepen your sense of despair.
And even more? Look after yourself and you’ll be able to deal with what you face far better than you would do if you don’t.
It is essential you do all you can to minimise the adverse impact that your fight for child contact will have on your mental health and well-being.
Good physical health is key to maintaining good mental health
Maintaining good health can help decrease stress levels, lower risk of disease, and increase energy and resilience, especially when facing the biggest challenge of your life i.e to see, love and protect your own child.
Staying active
Get up and move around, get some fresh air outside.
Regular physical exercise boots energy, self-esteem, mood and sleep quality. It doesn’t have to be intense exercise either. Going for a walk is enough – it’s free and easy. It’ll help you lose weight, focus your mind, build stamina and is good for your heart too.
You don’t need to take part in intensive and/or expensive exercise routines.
Maintain the Body
Maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in muscle-strengthening activities two to three times a week is key. Likewise, cardio exercise produces endorphins which can lift move instantly and make you feel more in control.
Identify unhealthy habits and patterns and be patient with any progress. Improvement with health can take time.
Which ironically is exactly what you have to do when in family court proceedings
As a Family law Specialist at Family Law Assistance i help people identify any unhealth habits that they may have.
To be more precise i point out where they may need to make a change in Language, especially when talking about an ex partner.
Mental health is not just about what you think, it is also about what you say and how you say it.
